Getting Ready for the Shindig

Today was a day full of shopping for G.T.'s upcoming shindig.

We started off by picking up Jayne, he gave me a really awesome knife, and then we all went to lunch at one of G.T.'s favorite Thai places before heading to his apartment to play with Moose; Jayne's dog and Tazz's brother. We all really enjoyed each other's company and had a good time. Then, it was time for the women to get some shopping done.

I think we hit 6 stores in total and got almost everything we need for the party. We still have center pieces and some refreshments left, but I think we got a lot. Cale, my wheelchair, was great, we've all gotten pretty fast at putting him together and he handles really well in tight spaces, so I was able to join in with all the shopping. Without Cale I would probably have sat in the car for most of, if not all of it.

Aside from that, nothing super exciting happened with us that I can remember.

The plan for tomorrow is baby sitting for me and the moms, work for G.T. and her grandparents are coming to stay at the house.

At G.T.'s house

After another day of driving, I'm finally at G.T.'s house and am now writing from their living room. I had quite the welcome, G.T. was standing in the middle of the road and almost gave mom a heart attack and then she and her older sister ran next to the car with Tazz the boarder collie. After I got out there were hugs and ooing and aweing over my new wheelchair before the dogs swamped me. Somehow I managed to keep them from licking my face, I'm still not sure how I did it, but I'm glad for it. After that, I ate some leftovers for dinner, and we watched my Senior Slide-Show followed be hers and then took over the PC to watch some youtube videos. We get mocked for it a lot, but G.T. and I like to watch things together, we'll do it all day, so it was a good way to kick things off I think.

For those of you wondering, the drive was okay, I dislocated my hips a couple of times and slept through all we had left of Kansas, but that's the only exciting stuff to report.

As far plans for tomorrow goes, we're going to go into to town to get stuff for G.T.'s shindig and then we'll probably work on getting the house ready for it along with watching tv and possibly playing The Sims. I know, we lead exciting lives.

Driving and Spider Attacks

Today started off kind of rough, my medicine from the night before hadn't worn off by the time I got up and had to be out the door, so I was really disoriented and emotionally raw to the point that the fact that I didn't get to say goodbye to my cat made me cry so hard that mom turned the car around so I could give my kitty a goodbye hug. Kova was pretty happy about this and that, mixed with some Disney singing in the car, made things right as rain, so the rest of the driving day went just fine.

I saw a senior citizen biker group who spent their entire lunch discussing different models they liked and if they liked us young folk sharing the road with them or not. I think the final decision was that you can never be too old to bike and once you've got a license, you aren't too young either.

After that, I partook in the popular road trip pass time of sleeping, I didn't really mean to do this and forgot to buckle my seat belt when I did, so it was a pretty startling awakening (don't worry, I'm okay, mom knew I was asleep and drove carefully)

Then, this is probably my favorite thing, we made several stops at rest areas for my legs and they were beautiful. It was like this little wooded area with streams and an itty bitty water fall. I mistook a chipmunk for a lizard and spotted a frog, but I couldn't catch him much to mom's joy. Having a frog in the car with us was not her idea of a good time for some strange reason. Oh, and I got attacked by spiders, lots and lots of spiders. I don't think any of them bit me, though, just got up in my face and tried to get their webs in my hair. It was pretty dang nasty, not gonna lie.

Nothing else exciting to report really, mom and I have been listening to The Shack by William P. Young and I've been trying my hand at friendship bracelets to keep my hands busy, so far it's worked and it's actually helped with managing the pain, so that's been really nice.

As far as I know, the plans for tomorrow are more driving and getting to G.T.'s house before too late (assuming we don't get hopelessly lost again.)

The Time Has Come

The reason this blog was created starts tomorrow - The Twinny Senior Trip!
G.T. and I decided about 4 years ago or so that we wanted to do something big before we started college because seeing each other ever summer wouldn't be a sure thing after that. S0, after discussions and day dreams, we decided on sharing a senior trip and road trip together to DC. Awesome idea, I know.
The blog came when we realized that our friends and family might worry about us being alone on the road and instead of calling everyone every night on every stop we made, I thought a blog would be a good way to keep everyone updated on our adventures while assuring them we were safe and give them an idea of what we were doing the next day so they could know what to pray for and in some cases worry about ;)

All the blog posts before this was us trying to practice for this trip....Hopefully we'll do better in the actual situation...

We're going to use my laptop to blog, so loosing notebooks shouldn't be a problem....

Alright, let's kick this puppy into gear!

My mom and I will be heading out tomorrow for Kentucky, we've given ourselves 3 days to get there so I wont have to be in the car for such long stretches of time. So, the ride down shouldn't be too rough on me. That's all the plans for tomorrow really, just driving....lots of driving...

G.T. has a graduation shindig on the 2nd, so we'll be kicking in at her house until the 5th and off to DC we'll go!

I'm really excited for this trip and can't wait for tomorrow :)
